Welcome to Mechanicsburg

Half an hour from downtown Harrisburg is this lovely, historic suburb that hosts the long-running Jubilee Day

Mechanicsburg is a historic suburb in Cumberland County comprising several municipalities. The variety of districts within the township mean there is a wide variety of residential and business opportunities, from older historic neighborhoods to the bustling, walkable downtown area. Located only a half-hour away from Harrisburg's vibrant downtown and the popular tourist and resort town of Hershey, Mechanicsburg is a pleasant place to live with plenty to do.

The town was named for its founders, a group of mechanics that settled the area to help fix and build wagons for travelers migrating to the west after crossing the Susquehanna River. The settlement was also essential to the development of the Cumberland Valley Railroad. Mechanicsburg residents appreciate its quiet, picturesque settings and community-oriented atmosphere. Today, the township has become known for being the hometown of many fun festivals, including the Jubilee Day –– the longest-running one-day street fair on the east coast.
